The Boston Rock Gym and the International Rock Climbing School are committed to offering diverse climbing and outdoor programs to children of all ages, ethnic and economic backgrounds. Knowing the importance of a comprehensive and far-reaching approach, we have developed a broad curriculum designed to build climbing skills from the most basic to the most advanced, establish self-confidence, and instill a spirit of cooperation and teamwork among all of our students. By incorporating simple instruction into a program of extensive hands-on experience, our students will gain the skills, discipline and confidence to succeed in any future endeavor, while at the same time developing a genuine love and respect for nature and others.
We are constantly modifying our programs to fit the needs of our students better and welcome any help or advice from parents. The chief advantage of having small classes is that we are able to build strong, long-term relationships with all of our students and their families. This type of environment allows us to work closer with students to achieve our most important goals: great physical condition and health, as well as building the students' confidence which will help them out their entire life. |

Climbing Merit Badge Program The goal of the climbing merit badge is for the scouts to become comfortable with belaying, climbing, rappelling and the equipment associated with said activities. The scouts will learn how to use their safety gear and to tie the correct knots associated with climbing activities. This is a lesson on how to belay and it also features a rappel component. The scouts are expected to show up with knowledge of the first few requirements if they would like to complete the merit badge in one day. There is no guarantee that any or all scouts will complete the merit badge in one day. Future appointments may need to be made with the counselor to finish requirements. The goal of this lesson is to teach and practice the hard skills of belaying, climbing, and rappelling, and to introduce the boys to the sport of rock climbing.
* Note: Blue cards will not be provided by BRG or climbing merit badge counselor. Troop must bring blue cards. |
